Prabowo Interested in Learning Jordanian Agricultural Technology

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia and Jordan have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the field of agriculture. President Prabowo Subianto specifically expressed Indonesia's interest in learning from the advancements of agricultural technology in Jordan. 'Jordan has advanced technology in agriculture, and we want to learn,' said Prabowo while delivering his remarks in a bilateral meeting with King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan at the Al Husseiniya Palace on Monday, April 14, 2025.

The meeting resulted in several enhancements of cooperation in education and economics. 'We discussed enhancements in several areas of cooperation such as education, science, technology, and economics,' said Prabowo in a YouTube broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat.

Prabowo also revealed his plan to purchase fertilizers from Jordan. According to him, Jordan's fertilizers are among the cheapest. 'We buy a lot of phosphate here for fertilizers, which are among the cheapest in the world,' he said.

Furthermore, Prabowo stated that the meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan discussed the issue of Gaza, Palestine. Indonesia is willing to assist from a humanitarian perspective. 'As soon as there is a ceasefire, we will offer what can be done to expedite peace,' he said.

Meanwhile, King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein emphasized Indonesia's strategic role on the global stage. One of them is responding to the situation in the Middle East, which is currently experiencing instability due to the wars in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria. 'I believe under your leadership, Indonesia will play an important role for all of us in addressing many issues,' said King Abdullah II.

Before the bilateral meeting, the two leaders witnessed the signing of four memoranda of understanding (MoUs). The MoUs were signed by the Indonesian Ministry of Defense and the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture with the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture. In addition, the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Higher Education signed MoUs with the Jordanian Scientific Research, the Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Places.

The visit to Jordan is one of Prabowo's destinations in visiting several countries in the Middle East. The visit aims to strengthen strategic cooperation and promote the resolution of the Gaza conflict through diplomatic and humanitarian means.

Prior to visiting Jordan, Prabowo met with Emir Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the Amiri Diwan Palace on Sunday, April 13, 2025. Prabowo stated that Qatar is committed to investing in Daya Anagata Nusantara or Danantara in the amount of US$ 2 billion. According to him, this is part of the increased cooperation between Indonesia and Qatar.
