TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has instructed the ranks to swiftly respond to the sinking of the passenger motorboat (KMP) Tunu Pratama Jaya in the waters of the Bali Strait on Wednesday night, July 2, 2025. Prabowo requested that the rescue of the victims be prioritized.
"He immediately ordered the Basarnas ranks and related agencies to promptly carry out emergency response for the rescue of passengers and crew as quickly as possible," said Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya, the Cabinet Secretary, through a written statement from the Presidential Secretariat on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
Teddy stated that, even though currently in Saudi Arabia, Prabowo continued to receive reports from the homeland. The retired TNI General was in Saudi Arabia for a state visit. Prabowo met with the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, or MBS, at the Al-Salam Palace, Jeddah, on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
The KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya, carrying dozens of passengers, sank in the Bali Strait on Wednesday night, July 2, 2025, around 23:35 WIB. The Coordinator of the Banyuwangi SAR Post, Wahyu Setia Budi, stated that the sinking incident of the KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya, carrying dozens of passengers, occurred while on the Ketapang-Gilimanuk route.
"The KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya departed from Ketapang Port, Banyuwangi Regency around 22:56 WIB," said Wahyu as quoted by Antara.
According to him, the ferry on the Ketapang-Gilimanuk route sank before reaching Gilimanuk Port. Wahyu mentioned the data on the number of passengers or the KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya manifest, which carried 53 passengers, 12 ship's crew, and 22 vehicles.
