TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's delegation will attend Pope Francis' funeral Mass on Saturday morning, Vatican time, April 26, 2025. Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai, one of the four government representatives to the Vatican, said the delegation would attend the funeral as official state guests alongside leaders from other countries.
Pigai stated they will depart from the hotel at 7:30 local time wearing formal black suits with ties and traditional caps. ''The funeral mass is expected to start at 10:00 and end at 12:00 Vatican time,'' Pigai said in a message to Tempo on 26 April 2025.
Natalius Pigai arrived in Rome, Italy, on Thursday, 24 April 2025. Meanwhile, Ignasius Jonan, the 7th President Joko Widodo or Jokowi, and Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Djiwandono arrived on Friday, 25 April 2025. They stayed at the same hotel and floor in Rome. Pigai also mentioned that the delegation met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Vatican and Italy.jo
''We were fully facilitated by the State Secretariat Ministry staff. Yesterday, on Friday, Pak Jonan, Pak Thomas, and I were in the Vatican attending Mass at St. Peter's Basilica,'' said Pigai.
Prabowo Subianto delegated Jokowi to attend Pope Francis' funeral at the Vatican. In addition to Jokowi, Prabowo sends the Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai, Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Djiwandono, and former Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan.
Secretary of State Prasetyo Hadi said that the representatives brought a personal letter from President Prabowo to be delivered to the Vatican government. The message includes Indonesia's condolences for Pope Francis' loss.
The message also includes Prabowo's hope that Pope Francis' spirit of defending the weak continues.
''We hope the spirit of Pope Francis to defend the weak, the poor, and the oppressed, these are the values of humanity left by Pope Francis, and we must continue,'' he said.
