TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto stated that the new Indonesia Cabinet Retreat agenda at the Military Academy or Akmil Magelang, Central Java, on Friday, October 25, was not militaristic. Prabowo referred to the ministers' training as 'The Military Way' commonly practiced in the government.
"I didn't mean to make you militaristic. No, it's not that. (But) it's the military way," Prabowo said in his speech at Akmil Magelang, as quoted from a written statement on Friday, October 25, 2024.
The head of state mentioned that he introduced The Military Way because it is widely used in government and business to instill discipline. In addition, the military approach is claimed to foster loyalty to the nation and the state.
"The Military Way is emulated by many governments, especially corporations. The military way is the core of all companies, which is discipline. Second, loyalty asks you not to be loyal to Prabowo. Loyalty to the nation and the state of Indonesia," Prabowo said.
Chief Expert Advisor of the Presidential Communications Office, Dedek Prayudi, explained the purpose of President Prabowo's use of the military way as Prabowo has a long history in the military. According to Dedek, the retired general of the Indonesian Army has sacrificed himself for the nation and the state.
"So, the choice of location, for example, in Magelang City. Magelang is a symbol of struggle, yes, if we go back historically," Dedek told the media on Friday.
He added that the Military Way was one of the aspects that led the Gerindra chairman to become president. He mentioned that Prabowo wanted to instill in the ministers a sense of sacrifice for the nation and the state. This includes aspects of discipline, cooperation, togetherness, orderliness, and patriotic qualities.
"Because the members of this cabinet will have extraordinary authority in the future," Dedek said.
During the gala dinner with his ministers at Akmil on Friday night, Prabowo also mentioned the reasons why the site of the Indonesian Military's training facility in Bukit Tidar was chosen as the venue for the retreat. According to folk legend, he said, Bukit Tidar is the navel of the island of Java. This is where the knights were born and grew up.
"Magelang is a center of resistance against colonialism. For hundreds of years, it has been known for the fighting spirit of Prince Diponegoro. The event at Mount Tidar brings an aura of tradition of courage, heroism, and love for country," he said.
