TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has given a warning about the difficult times that the people will face. According to Prabowo, the Indonesian nation must be prepared to pass through difficult times due to the war in the Middle East.
"Due to the war in the Middle East, we must be prepared to face difficulties," said Prabowo during the virtual inauguration of 218 bridges on Monday, March 9, 2026.
According to Prabowo, the major forces currently in conflict could drag other countries into the conflict. "We are living in a dangerous world. Major forces are in conflict and could drag other nations into difficult situations," he said.
Prabowo said that Indonesia could also experience difficulties due to the war. Although Indonesia is far from the battlefields, Prabowo mentioned that the war in that region would affect Indonesia.
According to Prabowo, Indonesia cannot hide from the upcoming problems. He expressed his desire to address these difficulties directly. "We must have the courage to face difficulties, we do not conceal difficulties, we do not pretend that there are no difficulties," he said.
Prabowo stated that he plans to speak about the current situation to the entire Indonesian people in the near future. "I have to be honest with the entire people and I will provide an explanation to the entire Indonesian nation in the near future," he said.
The situation in the Middle East heated up after the United States and Israel conducted an airstrike on Iran on February 28, 2026. The airstrike on Tehran, the capital of Iran, killed several leaders of the Islamic Republic, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran retaliated by attacking Israel's territory and neighboring countries with US military bases. Attacks from the US-Israel to Iran also continued.
Prabowo mentioned that Indonesia has taken the right stance by not taking sides. "Our nation is on the right path, we are on the path of taking no sides. We always adhere to the active and non-aligned path," he said.
