Presidential Inauguration Imminent: A Glimpse Into Prabowo-Gibran's 17 Priority Programs

TEMPO.CO, JakartaPrabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka will be inaugurated as the next president and vice president of Indonesia for the next five-year term on Sunday, October 20, 2024. 

Prabowo has repeatedly emphasized his wish to start working immediately, working to fulfill his campaign vows that are encompassed in 17 priority programs and eight quick-win programs. As quoted from Antara, here is the list of Prabowo-Gibran’s goals during their reign:

1. Food, energy, and water self-sufficiency

Prabowo has repeatedly mentioned his goal of food self-sufficiency, especially during the campaign period. To achieve this goal, he formulated several strategies, including food estate

Prabowo also aims to add agricultural lands by 4 million hectares by 2024. To support this plan, Prabowo underscores the issue of water governance to ensure water availability during the dry season and avoid disasters during the rainy season. 

For energy self-sufficiency, Prabowo-Gibran believes that Indonesia can become a major supplier of green energy through the development of biodiesel and bioavtur products from palm oil and bioethanol from sugar cane and cassava, as well as green energy.

2. Improvement of the state revenue system

The second priority program that the Prabowo-Gibran government will execute is the improvement of the state revenue system. They plan to enhance the capacity of the state revenue institutions to support the steps taken to gain sustainable development financing sources.

3. Political, legal, and bureaucratic reform

Prabowo and Gibran are determined to curb money politics practices, enhance equality, and ease access to politics. Meanwhile, in the legal sector, the future government stresses the importance of upholding the principles of equality before the law and legal certainty. 

Furthermore, to achieve bureaucratic reform, the future government will continue digitization and strengthen the integrated single data system to improve efficiency and governance as well as support the career development of bureaucrats.

4. Corruption prevention and eradication

The Prabowo-Gibran government believes that corruption is the root cause of budget leaks and disrupts the economy. To combat corruption, the future government plans to eliminate the benefits received by perpetrators while striving for state financial recovery.

5. Poverty eradication

Poverty eradication is the primary priority of the future government's policy. Prabowo-Gibran targets the eradication of extreme poverty to zero percent within the first 2 years of their term. Meanwhile, the future government also aims to reduce the relative poverty rate to below 6 percent by the end of 2029.

6. Prevention and eradication of drugs

Prabowo-Gibran believes that drug abuse can destroy people’s productivity and quality of life. Thus, the future government will ensure a targeted and comprehensive measure to achieve corruption eradication.

7. Healthcare services for all citizens

The future government plans to continue and enhance the social security agency, or BPJS, supported by the universal provision of medicines for all citizens.

8. Strengthening education, science, and technology, as well as digitalization

The Prabowo-Gibran government strives for research and innovation funds to reach 1.5 percent to two percent of GDP in 5 years of their term. To achieve this, government policies supporting investment in education, science, and technology, as well as digitalization, are considered essential. They are planning to form permanent education, Islamic boarding schools, and cultural and civil society organization funds. 

9. Strengthening national defense and security and maintaining conducive international relations

A strong national defense is a top priority and major concern of the Prabowo-Gibran government. They also believe that a strong country can achieve and create anything desired and will be respected in both regional and international relations. 

10. Strengthening gender equality and protecting the rights of women, children, and persons with disabilities

Prabowo-Gibran said they are committed to creating a fair and inclusive society, strengthening gender equality, and protecting the rights of women, children, and persons with disabilities. The future government also emphasizes the specific protection for the development of children, including their nutritional adequacy.
