TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Shin Tae-yong was fired by PSSI from his position as coach of the Indonesian National Team. His son, Shin Jae-won, expressed his disappointment and curiosity over the decision.
Shin Jae-won considered the dismissal decision announced on Monday, January 6, 2025, to be unfair. According to him, Indonesia's current level, ranked 127th out of 173 in the world, was thanks to his father's hard work for approximately five years as the architect of the Garuda team.
"Let's see how far you can go without him. He has given his all to bring the Indonesian National Team this far," wrote Shin Jae-won in the comments column of PSSI's Instagram post, quoted in Jakarta, Monday.
"I have many stories about how PSSI has treated my father for five years, but I will remain silent," he said again.
Not only in the comments column of PSSI's Instagram, the footballer who plays for the South Korean club Seongnam FC also expressed his concerns on his Instagram story.
Here, he also mentioned his father's series of achievements for Indonesia, two of which were increasing his ranking in the FIFA ranking and leading the Garuda team to advance to the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers for the first time.
"He (Shin Tae-yong) increased 50 rankings in FIFA in 5 years and reached 3rd place in the World Cup Qualifiers, then now he is fired," he said.
"Our family knows that my father has done his best for Indonesia," he said again.
Meanwhile, today PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir announced that the new coach for the Indonesian national team is from the Netherlands.
The new coach will come to Indonesia on Saturday, January 11. Later, the new coach will be introduced to the public at a press conference the following day, Sunday, January 12.
