TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian national team was eliminated in the group stage of the 2024 AFF Cup. The 0-1 defeat to the Philippines, at the Manahan Stadium in Solo, Central Java, Saturday, December 21, 2024, made the Garuda Squad only finish third in Group B, below Vietnam and the Philippines.
Coach Shin Tae-yong said it was not easy to play against senior national teams from various countries in the 2024 AFF Cup. "Our players are on average 20 years old, playing against very good senior players," he said after the match between Indonesia and the Philippines.
Despite losing with a score of 0-1, according to him there is great hope from the young Indonesian players. "I see great hope from our game today. For that we will try again to develop, thank you for the hard work of the young Indonesian players," he said.
According to him, in terms of physicality it is not easy to play against the senior national team. "Moreover, our training is not too long either. Moreover, this league is also rolling in Indonesia, so the schedule is tight and difficult too," he said.
Shin Tae-yong ensured the result would be different if Ivar Jenner and Justin Hubner came to strengthen the Garuda squad. "If Ivar and Justin come, we can definitely achieve better results in this AFF tournament," he said.
This result made the Indonesian National Team fail again in its attempt to win its first title in the AFF Cup. Previously, Garuda's best achievement was six times as runner-up.
