TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto responded to the Supreme Court's (MA) decision to reject the cassation appeal of PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk or Sritex. He said that the textile company, which was established in 1946, is still running even though it has been declared bankrupt.
"Sritex is still running," said the former General Chairperson of the Golkar Party to reporters in the Tangerang area, Banten, Sunday, December 22, 2024.
Airlangga ensured that the government would not remain silent about the condition of the company that once supplied military uniforms to NATO countries. He confirmed that the government would take special efforts to save Sritex.
"There are restructuring efforts," said Airlangga briefly, when asked by reporters about special efforts to save Sritex.
The MA officially rejected the cassation application filed by PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk or Sritex regarding the decision of the Semarang Commercial Court which declared the largest textile company bankrupt. The decision itself was read out in a hearing on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
"Verdict: Reject," read the verdict as quoted from the official MA website, Thursday, December 19, 2024.
The Sritex cassation verdict hearing was led by Agung Hamdi as Chief Justice along with two Member Judges, Agung Nani Indrawati and Lucas Prakoso. In addition to Sritex, the cassation was also filed by PT Bitratex Industries, PT Primayudha Mandirijaya, and PT Sinar Pantja Djaja.
This verdict makes the textile giant's bankruptcy status legally valid or final. Previously, the Semarang Commercial District Court (PN) declared Sritex bankrupt through the Semarang District Court's decision on case number 2/Pdt.Sus-Homologasi/2024/PN Niaga Smg.
The cassation application was filed by Sritex's President Director, Iwan Kurniawan Lukminto on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. Wawan said he had high hopes for the MA as the last bastion of justice to be able to provide a just decision and provide the widest possible benefits. "Support from various parties is a source of encouragement for us to get through this difficult time," said Wawan.
