TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Special Detachment or Densus 88 Anti-terror Police, will assist a total of 10,425 former convicts, including 2,285 former convicted terrorists and 8,140 former Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) members, to participate in the Food Brigade program.

Amran said the agricultural sector is the spearhead in job creation, so he encouraged thousands of former convicts to become productive workers to realize food self-sufficiency in Indonesia.

"We previously worked with the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, and now with Densus 88. This is a good collaboration to help speed up self-sufficiency," said Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman on Thursday, January 2, 2024, quoted from a written statement.

On the same occasion, the Head of Densus 88 Anti-terror Police, Inspector General Sentot Prasetyo, said that the police had divided the prisoner clusters into red, yellow, and green. "Red means those who still hold the violent ideology, and green means those who have returned to the Pancasila society," he said.

Sentot added that achieving the food self-sufficiency target requires the support of all parties, including convicted terrorists. He hopes the cooperation can continue to expand.

The Ministry of Agriculture has formed a Food Brigade to oversee the progress of food self-sufficiency. The Food Brigade will later be tasked with helping millennial farmers or Gen Z students who want to farm optimize their land and create rice fields.
