TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Commander of the Indonesian Military (TNI) General Agus Subiyanto spoke about ongoing attempts to weaken the military. He made these remarks during a guidance session for senior and middle-ranking officers at the annual TNI leadership meeting at the TNI Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta on Friday, January 31, 2025.

Agus said that he has known about the attempts to weaken the TNI for a long time. "Since the reform process until now, when I was still a Lieutenant, I already knew that there are attempts to weaken us," he said in front of hundreds of senior and middle-ranking TNI officers on Friday, January 31, 2025.

According to him, only the military personnel themselves can feel the attempts. Therefore, he asked all TNI personnel to strengthen the institution together.

He asked all personnel to align their way of thinking and actions to face all developing situations at present.

"For the progress of the TNI. If it's not us (the soldiers), then who else will take care of the TNI," Agus said.

He acknowledged that aligning the vision and mission to strengthen the TNI requires significant effort. However, he said it is important to prevent those who seek to weaken the Indonesian armed forces from succeeding.

In addition, he said that his institution has adapted to these challenges by revising several war doctrines. The Commander said that current TNI battle tactics reflect the evolving strategic environment.

"The past wars were traditional, [the current wars] now use AI Kamikaze drones, killing the opponent is as easy as using unmanned aircraft," he said.

He also mentioned that the doctrine changes have been implemented in the operational field. For example, the formation of a cyber force from civilian expertise in that area.

Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto highlighted similar concerns about attempts to weaken the TNI and the National Police in order to destroy the country. "When a country is about to be destroyed, be prepared; the opponents will weaken the military, police, and intelligence," he said during a guidance session at the TNI-Polri leadership meeting on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
