TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Transportation Agency has announced plans to adjust or reroute the Transjakarta Corridor 1, which currently operates connecting Blok M and Kota. This decision comes in light of the upcoming completion of MRT Jakarta Phase 2A, which overlaps with the existing Transjakarta route.
“Once MRT Phase 2A is completed and becomes fully operational, connecting Lebak Bulus to Kota, Transjakarta services that overlap with the MRT line, such as Corridor 1 Blok M-Kota will be rerouted,” explained Syafrin Liputo, Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, in an official statement on Saturday, December 21, 2024.
Syafrin emphasized that the aim is not to eliminate Transjakarta services but rather to optimize their role within the broader public transportation network. Transjakarta will continue to operate as a feeder system, connecting passengers to MRT and LRT stations, aligning with the Jakarta Provincial Government's policy of prioritizing rail-based transportation as the backbone of the mass transportation system.
“We will continue to utilize Transjakarta routes in an integrated manner. For instance, the route from Semanggi to Kebon Sirih to Tanah Abang will be maintained to support connectivity,” he added.
Efficient subsidy management also plays a role in the decision to reroute Transjakarta Corridor 1. “Jakarta has a transportation master plan that prioritizes efficient use of public service obligation (PSO) funds,” Syafrin explained.
The Transportation Agency will also evaluate MRT fares that are considered pricey by some people. “We will explore fare adjustments to ensure affordability and encourage the use of integrated public transportation in Jakarta,” he said.
The route adjustments, he went on, aim to create a more efficient and integrated public transportation system that maximizes benefits for Jakarta residents. “There will be no wasted resources. All routes and stops will be strategically utilized to support the mobility needs of Jakartans,” he concluded.
Spanning 11.8 kilometers from Bundaran HI to West Ancol, the Jakarta MRT Phase 2 development project connects with the existing Phase 1 north-south corridor operational since 2019, which runs from Lebak Bulus to Bundaran HI.
This expansion extends the total length of the north-south line to 27.8 kilometers. Passengers can expect a travel time of approximately 45 minutes between Lebak Bulus Station and Kota Station. Stations are spaced between 0.6 and 1 kilometer apart, and the line has a communication-based train control signaling system (CBTC) with a level 2 automatic operating system.
According to the official website jakartamrt.co.id, Phase 2 is divided into two stages: 2A and 2B. Phase 2A comprises seven underground stations: Thamrin, Monas, Harmoni, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, Glodok, and Kota, covering a total line length of 5.8 kilometers.
Meanwhile, Phase 2B is undergoing a feasibility study. This stage consists of two underground stations, Mangga Dua and Ancol, along with a depot situated in Ancol Marina. The total line length for Phase 2B is estimated to be six kilometers.
