TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – United States (US) President Donald Trump warned Tehran that the US military could completely destroy Iran within "one night," and that could happen as early as April 7.
"The entire country (Iran) could be taken out in one night and that night might be tomorrow night," Trump said at a press conference at the White House on Monday, April 6, 2026.
On March 30, Trump said Washington would "blow up and completely obliterate" all of Iran's power plants, oil wells, Kharg Island, and desalination plants if a peace deal is not reached and the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened.
Furthermore, on Sunday (April 5), Trump threatened to carry out the operation on April 7 unless Iran reopens the strategic waterway.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei said that Tehran had prepared a response to the mediators' proposal for a ceasefire with the US.
Previously, Trump said that Washington and Tehran had held productive talks.
However, the Iranian Foreign Ministry denied any direct dialogue, stating that Tehran received messages through intermediaries about Washington's desire to initiate dialogue to end the conflict.
The conflict began on February 28, 2026, when the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran, resulting in civilian casualties and the death of Iran's then-Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
Iran retaliated by targeting Israeli territory and several US military facilities in the Middle East.
Furthermore, Iran also seized control of the Strait of Hormuz, the world's most strategic maritime route through which approximately 20 percent of global oil and natural gas trade passes.
