TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A dentist enrolled in the Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS) at the University of Indonesia, Muhammad Azwindar Eka Satria, has been named a suspect for allegedly spying on and filming his boarding house neighbor while she was bathing. The footage was reportedly intended for his private use.
"The suspect's statement (video recording) was for personal consumption only, not for sale or distribution to others," said Chief of the Central Jakarta Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Commissioner Muhammad Firdaus, during a press conference on Monday, April 21, 2025.
Based on his confession, this was the first time the suspect committed such an act, claiming it was spontaneous and done for amusement.
"The suspect did it for fun after hearing the victim bathing," Firdaus said, elaborating on the motive.
Firdaus explained that the suspect was initially drawn by the sound of the victim in the bathroom. Out of curiosity, he climbed onto the ceiling to spy on her.
Carrying his phone, the PPDS dental student recorded the victim just as she finished bathing.
"The suspect playfully took the phone, climbed into the victim's bathroom, and recorded the victim," Firdaus stated.
The victim quickly noticed the camera and took action.
"The victim noticed the camera (recording), then immediately contacted her friends and brought the suspect to the Central Jakarta Police Resort," he added.
Despite living in the same boarding house in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, the suspect claimed he did not know the victim personally and had never interacted with her.
Police have questioned four witnesses and consulted a criminal law expert as part of their investigation. Azwindar has been in custody since Thursday, April 17, 2025, and is being charged under Article 29 (1) and Article 35 (9) of Law No. 44 of 2008 on Pornography. He faces up to 12 years in prison.
