TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Starlink has announced a temporary suspension of new customer registrations in Indonesia. "Starlink service is currently unavailable for new customers in your area due to sold-out capacity across Indonesia," the company stated in a written announcement on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
The company has also temporarily halted the activation process for new devices purchased through retail or third parties. However, interested individuals can still place a deposit to secure a spot on a waiting list and will be notified once the service becomes available again.
Starlink has not confirmed when the service will reopen in Indonesia. Their team is currently coordinating with local authorities to expedite the availability of the service in the country. "Our teams are collaborating with local authorities to bring Starlink to Indonesia as soon as possible," the company said.
Starlink officially commenced operations in Indonesia in May 2024 with its inaugural launch in Bali. Prior to this, since 2022, the service had been used on a limited basis by Telkom Satellite and Smartfren for internal needs. The surge in the number of users is believed to have caused the service capacity to reach its maximum limit, leading to the temporary suspension of new customer registration.
In response to a similar situation last year in several densely populated African cities, Starlink owner Elon Musk revealed that a rapid surge in demand quickly filled network capacity. "Please note that there is still significant capacity outside of city centers," Elon Musk posted on the X social media platform.
According to the latest availability map on starlink.com, Indonesia is currently listed as a waiting list region, alongside several other countries such as Ukraine, El Salvador, Mozambique, the city of Manila in the Philippines, and various regions in Brazil.
The website also explains that service orders in areas that have reached maximum capacity will require a deposit. This one-time deposit will be applied towards the Starlink device payment when the service becomes available again.
