TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Manggarai Police, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), has successfully identified the body of a woman found on the shore of Pink Beach, Padar Island, Komodo National Park on Thursday afternoon, February 6, 2025, has been identified.

"Yes, it has been identified," said the West Manggarai Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Christian Kadang in Labuan Bajo, as quoted from Antara on Saturday, February 8, 2025.

The victim has been identified as Juliani (32 years old), a resident of Sangia, Sangia Village, Sape District, Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).  Adj. Comr. Lufthi Darmawan Aditya, Chief of the West Manggarai Police Criminal Investigation Unit, explained that the identification was made by the Indonesian Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (Inafis) team of the West Manggarai Police.

"In less than 24 hours, we managed to uncover the identity of the corpse," he said.

The identification process, he said, involved taking photographs of the body from four different angles and recording the fingerprints. This led to the discovery of the floating body's identity. "The process of identification was quite difficult because the body had started to decompose, but after matching the fingerprint search results using the vinegar method, the identity of the body was eventually revealed," he said.

He explained that the vinegar method was used to reveal the papillary lines on the fingers, as the outer skin had peeled off and begun to decompose. "Of the 10 fingers on both left and right hands, only the left thumb had papillary lines, while the other fingers did not have those lines," said Lufthi.

The identification also involved comparing all identity data, including fingerprints on the e-ID card, which matched those of Juliani (32 years old). "We also matched the fingerprint data at the police and the e-ID card to ensure the identity of the body," he said.

He explained that Juliani's family was contacted to confirm her identity and conduct a physical examination. Information from the family suggests that Juliani was likely swept away by the flash flood that struck the Wera and Ambalawi Districts, Bima, NTB on Sunday, February 2.

Juliani's body is currently being held at Komodo Labuan Bajo Regional Hospital and will be transported to Bima, NTB for burial. "Tomorrow morning, the body will be taken to her hometown using a speedboat, accompanied by family members," Lufthi said.
