TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President of China Xi Jinping extended his warm congratulations to Prabowo Subianto on the inauguration as the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia. In a phone call on October 20, President Xi expressed his best wishes for Prabowo's success in leading Indonesia.
“On October 20, 2024, President Xi called Prabowo to congratulate him on his inauguration as President of Indonesia,” a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs read.
Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka were officially sworn in as Indonesian President and Vice President for the 2024-2029 term during the Plenary Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta.
“President Xi stated that China and Indonesia are traditionally friendly neighbors,” the statement said.
The comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Indonesia is assessed to be steadily increasing and has entered a new stage in building a community with a shared future.
As 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia, President Xi expressed his desire to further deepen bilateral cooperation and strengthen unity among developing countries.
“I would like to maintain close strategic communication with President Prabowo,” President Xi said, adding that he also intends to lead the building of a shared future community between China and Indonesia to a higher level.
Prabowo's inauguration was witnessed by a substantial number of Indonesian officials and international dignitaries. Among the attendees were 709 out of 731 members of the MPR, national figures, political party leaders, and representatives of friendly countries. Notably, 20 heads of state and 18 ministers were present at the inauguration event.
Among the representatives of friendly countries, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng was in attendance. He met with the 7th President Jokowi at the Merdeka Palace on Saturday night to convey President Xi's congratulations and wishes for Prabowo's success.
