TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Drug Investigation Unit of Aceh Tamiang Police thwarted a drug smuggling attempt of cocaine worth Rp4 billion, arresting the owner and seizing the evidence of 2.24 kilograms of cocaine.
“We successfully uncovered a significant narcotics case, with cocaine weighing about two kilograms with an estimated value of Rp4 billion,” said Aceh Tamiang Police Chief AKBP Muliadi in a press conference on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
The case was first discovered upon a resident report about a 34-year-old man who would deliver cocaine on a motorcycle to Upah Village, Bendahara District, Aceh Tamiang Regency, Sunday night, December 29, 2024.
After arresting the offender, police officers then searched his residence, where they discovered two packages of cocaine stored in an oil jerry can.
M, the perpetrator, admitted he obtained the drugs from a man with the initials Z, which the police had already designated as fugitive.
Citing Antara, Z, or Panjol, is a resident of Rantau Pakam Village in Aceh Tamiang. The police also confirmed that M was not a courier, but the owner, along with Z. Erwo Guntoro, the chief of the drug investigation unit at Aceh Tamiang Police, said this was the first cocaine-related case in Aceh Tamiang, as the drug is considered rare and difficult to obtain in the region.
Furthermore, the police detailed the evidence secured from the case, which include one clear plastic container with a red clip containing white powder suspected of cocaine with a gross weight of 0.71 grams, one clear plastic containing white powder suspected of cocaine with the inscription FEDEX, and one clear plastic containing white powder suspected of cocaine which has a cartoon or animated image of a human holding a Brazilian flag with a gross weight of 2.24 kilograms.
In addition, the Aceh Tamiang police officers also secured a Yamaha Fino motorcycle with license plate BL 5984 UAD used by the perpetrator for transactions, a cellphone, a cigarette box, and a jerry can of used oil.
The perpetrator is charged with Article 114 paragraph (2) Sub Article 112 paragraph (2) of Narcotics Law No. 35 of 2009 with a minimum imprisonment of six years and a maximum of 20 years, death penalty, or life imprisonment with a maximum fine of Rp10 billion.
