TEMPO.CO, Bandung - An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.6 shook parts of Garut Regency, West Java. The Meteorology Climatology Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded the time of the earthquake on Wednesday afternoon, January 15, 2025, at 17:10 WIB.
Based on the results of BMKG analysis, the source of the earthquake was in the sea 92 kilometers southwest of the center of Bandung Regency. The earthquake is classified as shallow from a depth of 29 kilometers. "The earthquake was caused by active fault activity," said Head of BBMKG Region II Tangerang Hartanto in a written statement Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
Earthquake tremors, as depicted by the BMKG's shaking level map and based on reports from the public, were felt in the Tarogong Kidul District and Samarang District in Garut with an intensity scale of II-III MMI.
Only a few people felt the tremor, and light objects were hanging sway until it was felt inside the house as if a truck had passed by. BMKG said there were no reports of damage to buildings due to the earthquake.
The latest earthquake whose impact could be felt was recorded by BMKG on Wednesday night at 21:10 WIB. It occurred in Nagan Raya, South Aceh Regency.
BMKG data states that the strength of this earthquake was M4.0 ,with its epicenter at sea. Originating from a depth of 32 kilometers, the earthquake was also felt on a scale of II-III MMI.
