TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesia-based e-commerce company Bukalapak announced on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, that it would be discontinuing its physical product buying and selling services on its marketplace. This strategic shift will see Bukalapak concentrate solely on virtual product offerings.

The company revealed this change in business direction through an official blog post. “We would like to inform you that Bukalapak will undergo a transformation in an effort to increase focus on virtual products,” the company stated.

Consequently, the marketplace for physical goods will cease operations. “As part of this strategic step, we will stop operating physical product sales on the Bukalapak Marketplace,” the announcement further explained.

The phase-out of physical product sales will be gradual, concluding on February 9, 2025. Buyers will have until 23:59 Jakarta time on that date to complete their transactions. However, sellers will no longer be able to add new products to their online stores starting February 1, 2025.

This discontinuation will include a wide range of product categories, including home accessories, electronics, e-vouchers, fashion, food, games, mobile phones, hobbies and collections, industrial goods, cameras, health products, computers, precious metals, luxury goods, media, automobiles, parts and accessories, motorcycles, sports equipment, beauty and personal care items, household goods, baby supplies, office supplies, personal care products, bicycles, and tickets and vouchers.

All orders that remain unprocessed by March 2, 2025, will be automatically canceled by the Bukalapak system. Furthermore, the company will ensure the return of all user balances and funds.

Moving forward, Bukalapak will entirely focus on its virtual product services, including prepaid credit, data packages, electricity tokens, postpaid electricity bills, pre-employment services, Bukasend, credit installments, BPJS Kesehatan (Indonesia's national health insurance), PDAM water bills, Telkom services, postpaid credit payments, cable TV and internet subscriptions, Land and Building Tax (PBB) payments, state revenue payments, streaming vouchers, traffic fine payments, Income Tax (PPh) payments, PPN (Value Added Tax/VAT) payments, PPh 21 (Income Tax) payments, SBN (State Treasury Securities) payments, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (Indonesia's social security agency) fees, BMoney, and digital gold vouchers.
