TEMPO.CO, JakartaHead of the National Food Security Agency (Bapanas) Arief Prasetyo Adi announced on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, that current rice reserves stored by state-owned food company Bulog are one of the government’s best.

"Bulog's rice stock reached 1.9 million tons as of February 11. This marks the best reserves we have had in recent years,” he said.

Bulog noted the rice stock consists of 124,361 tons of commercial rice and 1,784,753 tons of government rice reserve (CBP). Therefore, the accumulated rice currently stored in Bulog's warehouses reaches 1,909,114 tons.

Arief stated that with the current stock amount combined with the absorption target of 3 million tons by April 2025, Bulog's total rice stock could reach 5 million tons. He projected that by the end of 2025, the rice stock would be between 2.5 and 3 million tons.

Especially, Arief mentioned, with the government's intervention. "So, whatever happens, whether it's La Niña or El Niño, the government has a strong rice stock," he claimed.

In Arief's presentation while leading the coordination meeting for the Stabilization of Food Supply and Prices ahead of Ramadan, Bapanas recorded a total realization of rice procurement from domestic and international sources amounting to 103,427 tons. The realization from the remaining 2024 imports reached 70,400 tons. Meanwhile, domestic procurement amounted to 33,027 tons, consisting of 30,178 tons of government reserves and 2,849 tons of commercial rice.
