David Beckham has been pictured for the first time wearing a plaster cast after undergoing surgery, as he waved to fans ahead of Inter Miami's Club World Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain in Atlanta, Georgia, on Sunday.

The 50-year-old was hospitalised last week after being left in 'unbearable' pain and requiring surgery to remove a screw embedded in his wrist from an old injury suffered while playing for England 22 years ago.

Beckham, who co-owns Inter Miami, was seen arriving at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium wearing a blue sling with his right hand encased in a plaster cast, but appeared in good spirits as he smiled and greeted supporters before the match.

Miami's club president was also interviewed pictchside along with fellow co-owner Jorge Mas.

When asked by DAZN how his wrist was feeling, Beckham replied: 'It's fine. It was an old injury that needed surgery but it's all good.'

On the game ahead, he added: 'To be honest it is quite an emotional match for me. Obviously, the team that we own is playing probably the best team in the world right now. Who would have thought?'

Victoria Beckham, 51, had posted a photo of husband David, 50, in hospital earlier in the week

Beckham ended his playing days at PSG in 2013 and he still holds a lot of affection for the French club.

He continued: 'For me to have finished my career in Paris the way I did with this club was very special. I only spent six months there but it felt like 16 years. It's a real family, a real special club, owned by special people, run by a special man.

'We're very proud of this moment, to be stood here knowing that we are playing against PSG — as owners, as friends, as parters, it is very special.

Beckham's appearance in Atlanta came just days after wife Victoria, 51, shared a photo of him in hospital recovering from the operation, writing on Instagram: 'Get well soon daddy' as he smiled despite the discomfort.

MailOnline recently revealed that the former England captain had experienced worsening pain in recent months, with the embedded screw causing severe discomfort before he was forced to undergo surgery last week.

Despite his recent hospitalisation, Beckham made the trip to Georgia to support his team in one of their biggest games since the club's formation.

Miami exceeded expectations during the group phase as they qualified with an unbeaten record after draws with Al Ahly and Palmeiras either side of a famous win over Porto.

Meanwhile, PSG — a club that both Beckham and Miami captain Lionel Messi have previously played for — finished top of their group despite losing to Botafoga. That shock defeat was sandwiched between wins over Atletico Madrid and Seattle Sounders.

Beckham's appearance on Sunday came amid a period of family tensions, with ongoing reports of a rift with eldest son Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz, who did not attend Beckham's 50th birthday celebrations last month.

Beckham, however, ensured his mother Sandra was celebrated on her 76th birthday earlier this week week, posting a warm tribute on Instagram and including Brooklyn in the message despite the ongoing family issues.

Taking to Instagram, he wrote: 'Happy birthday mum we love you so much I hope u have the best day. Thank you for always being there for us all. Love you.'

Beckham rounded off the tribute by including the Instagram handles of various family members, including his three sons.

One of those sons, Romeo, was also at Sunday's game.
