TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto explained the content of the meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and President of China Xi Jinping, which among others discussed the blue economy and the great sea wall. The discussion is expected to continue, especially related to developments in the 'blue economy' sector, such as deepening in maritime-based sectors ranging from energy, solar, to fisheries.
On Saturday, November 9, 2024, the two leaders witnessed the signing of several G to G agreements in the fields of exporting fresh coconut, sustainable capture fisheries, blue economy, mineral resources, green minerals, water resources, nutritious food funding for school children to maritime security.
"Some of the points conveyed by the President, Mr. Prabowo, also received a positive response from President Xi Jinping, namely cooperation that is a pride project, namely the Jakarta-Bandung 'High-Speed Train', and in the future, the President mentioned regarding the 'Great Sea Wall', which is a dam in northern Java," said Airlangga on Sunday, November 10, 2024.
In addition, Airlangga also mentioned discussions regarding the development of the 'Two Countries Twin Parks' region, which is the development of industrial areas in both countries. Various activities were also discussed, including a deeper implementation of 'local currency settlement' or LCS rather than the 'payment system'.
Meanwhile, in the security sector, there were discussions that would be followed up by the Foreign Minister and Defense Minister of both countries. Airlangga described that the meeting between the two heads of state went very well and optimistically.
Current geopolitical conditions were also discussed, including the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States. Regarding trade relations with the United States, according to Airlangga, Indonesia does not need to worry because it already has the 'Indo-Pacific Economic Framework' mechanism that has been signed.
"And America understands that we have close relations in terms of investment and trade with China. So that is a fact, and we are part of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) with China in the Indo-Pacific and also a member of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF), so America supports us," explained Airlangga.
Indonesia is currently in the process of joining the OECD membership, which is one of the stages of the US economy. Therefore, Indonesia is a non-aligned, non-aligned country so it can cooperate with anyone especially after the meeting in Beijing with Xi.
Regarding nutritious food funding, Airlangga acknowledged that China supports the Government of Indonesia. Because the country has also carried out a nutritious food program, and it is also included in the State Budget.
The Chinese government supports the free nutritious food program initiated by President Prabowo Subianto with the agreement reached on the funding of the 'Food Supplementation and School Feeding Programme in Indonesia'. This was read out at the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Indonesia and the Chinese Government, directly witnessed by President Prabowo and President Xi on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
