DPR Chooses Setyo Budiyanto as the Chair of KPK for 2024-2029

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) chose Setyo Budiyanto as the Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for the period 2024-2029. Setyo received a total of 46 votes. 45 out of 46 DPR members voted for him as the chairman.

In terms of total vote tally, Setyo ranked below Johanis Tanak and Fitroh Rohcahyanto, who both received a total of 48 votes each. In fourth and fifth positions were Agus Joko Pramono with 39 votes and lastly Ibnu Basuki Widodo with 32 votes.

Setyo Budiyanto is a senior police officer currently serving as the Inspector General of the Ministry of Agriculture (Itjen Kementan). According to the Itjen Pertanian website, Setyo was promoted to this rank on March 27, 2024. This promotion was granted to Setyo after being appointed as Itjen Kementan a few days earlier, on March 22, 2024.

Based on the p2k.stekom.ac.id page, Setyo Budiyanto is a graduate of the Police Academy of 1989 with experience in the detective field. He was born on June 29, 1967, in Surabaya, East Java. He has held several strategic positions, such as Director of Investigation at the KPK, East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police Chief, and North Sulawesi Regional Police Chief.

Prior to this, Chairman of the DPR Commission III, Habiburokhman, stated that each DPR member selected five names as candidates for the leadership of the KPK. From these five names, DPR members had to choose one name as the KPK Chair.

The selection process for the leadership of the KPK took place through voting in the meeting room of Commission III on Thursday, November 21, 2024. A total of 48 members of Commission III contributed to the election. In addition to choosing the KPK leadership, Commission III also voted for members of the KPK Supervisory Board.
