TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and the Indonesian Representative in the Middle East have confirmed the increased escalation of security situation in Iran and its surrounding areas following the Israeli airstrike on Saturday, October 26, 2024. The Israeli attack targeted Iranian military centers in Tehran, Ilam, and Kuzestan.

Israel has launched a retaliatory attack on Iran following Tehran's attack earlier this month, according to an official acquaintance. Several explosions were heard in the capital city of Tehran on Saturday morning, local time, October 26, 2024, according to Iranian government media.

Prior to this, US Air Force F-16 fighter jets arrived in the Middle East from Germany, according to the US Central Command, as the region prepared to face Israel's response to Iran's major missile attack earlier this month.

At least five explosions were heard near the capital city of Iran, Tehran, according to various reports on social media. No further details were immediately available. There have been no official comments from Iranian authorities regarding the explosions.

These reports emerged amid repeated promises from Israeli leaders in recent days to respond to the firing of 200 ballistic missiles by Iran into Israel on October 1.
