TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Mahfud Md., suggested Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's government to establish an Omnibus Law on Government Administration. He assessed that the regulation could enable the current larger government cabinet to work effectively.

"If I may suggest, we should create a new Omnibus Law on government administration," said Mahfud in his podcast 'Terus Terang Mahfud Md.,' quoted from a written statement on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

He mentioned that through this regulation, several laws whose authority is partially repealed can be revoked through the Omnibus Law. Moreover, according to him, the targets set by President Prabowo will be difficult to achieve quickly if the administration still faces issues.

This constitutional law expert cited the Law on Law or Human Rights. Based on the current applicable law, the minister mentioned in the regulation is the Minister of Law and Human Rights.

"Not a Minister of Integration, nor a Minister of Human Rights," he said.

Through this Omnibus Law, Mahfud mentioned, it can be specified in one article that the minister for matter A is a new minister. The same goes for matter B.

A similar situation also occurred in the Ministry of Education and Culture, which is now divided into three ministries. As well as the Ministry of Religious Affairs, which now has a special body to handle hajj and umrah affairs.

"(Omnibus Law) all laws related to the new one are consolidated into one law on the new government administration structure," he stated.

Therefore, Mahfud Md mentioned that all laws that are still under the old ministries can be accommodated. "The term 'minister' in the law is changed to 'head of agency.' If it's technical, easy, it can be faster," he added.
