TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. Macron's convoy passed the National Monument intersection, where several children waved French and Indonesian flags along the way.
Macron's entourage emerged from the palace's viewpoint in Monas and entered the gates of the Merdeka Palace. Macron's convoy was escorted by 17 police motorcyclists and 50 mounted guards from the presidential security force. The convoy arrived at around 9:45 AM local time.
Outside the palace, President Prabowo greeted and embraced Macron. The Indonesian head of state also shook hands with Brigitte. Subsequently, the French national anthem 'La Marseillaise' was played by the Paspampres musicians, accompanied by 21 canon shots, followed by Indonesia Raya, the national anthem of Indonesia.
Prabowo then introduced Macron to the members of the Red and White Cabinet. Among the cabinet members present were Minister of Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Sugiono, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Investment and Downstream Minister Rosan Roeslani, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Communication and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid, Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman, Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri, Culture Minister Fadli Zon, Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Djiwandono, and Indonesian Ambassador to France Mohamad Oemar.
Yesterday, Macron expressed his pleasure at being able to visit Indonesia again during his three-day state visit from May 27 to 29, 2025.
Macron and Brigitte landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base at 9:50 PM local time, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. The French presidential Airbus A330-200 aircraft arrived in Jakarta after departing from Hanoi, Vietnam.
Before getting into the car, Macron took a moment to speak briefly to the media. He expressed his delight at returning to Indonesia after previously attending the G20 Summit in Bali two years ago.
"I am happy to be here because your country is beautiful. I remember meeting President Jokowi two years ago in Bali. And now, me, my wife, and my delegation are happy to be here, in Indonesia," Macron said before entering the car.
Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin stated that French President Emmanuel Macron would visit the Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java, to directly observe the TNI's French language laboratory.
"Where the officers and non-commissioned officers who will go to France are already proficient in French," Sjafrie said while welcoming Macron at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
After visiting Akmil in Magelang, Macron will continue his visit to Borobudur Temple. Macron will witness the beauty of the world's largest Buddhist temple accompanied by President Prabowo Subianto.
