Instagram introduces a new repost feature similar to Twitter's retweet (now known as X). According to an announcement on Instagram's blog on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, the Repost feature enables users to share content, such as Reels and Feed posts, from other creators.
The company explains that this feature is not available on computers but is accessible on Android and iPhone devices. The repost will also be recommended to friends and followers and will appear in a separate tab on the user's profile for review.
The credits displayed on reposted posts will still credit the original content creator. This means that a creator's content has the potential to be reposted by others and recommended to their followers, even if they do not follow the content creator.
This provides creators with new opportunities to reach a wider audience whenever they create something worth sharing. Users who want to use the repost feature have to tap the repost icon. Users can add a description to the post and then select save to repost interesting content.
Here are the steps to repost a post on Instagram:
- On the reel or public post you want to repost, tap the repost icon at the bottom of the post.
- To add text to the repost, tap the bubble next to the profile photo at the bottom left of the reel or post.
- Users can include text or emojis they want to share with the repost.
- Users can also tag other friends.
- After adding text, emojis, or tagging friends in the repost, click Save.
- The post will be reposted.
Users can also undo a repost of a post that has been sent. Tap the repost icon beneath that post again. The repost icon bubble next to the post will then disappear.
