TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Arifatul Choiri Fauzi, revealed that the role of fathers in raising children is still very minimal.
Arifah stated that she will launch various programs to encourage fathers' involvement in raising children. One of them, she said, will be an initiative in several regions that invites fathers to take their children to the integrated health post.
"Well, in several regions, we have a father's movement, so there is one day when the father brings his child to the integrated health post. So later they will discuss it," she said when met at Kota Kasablanka Mall, South Jakarta, on Saturday, February 1, 2025.
In addition, she also stated that she will require fathers to take part in collecting their children's report cards at school, so that it is not only the mother who hears information directly from the teacher regarding her child's assessment. According to Arifah, husband and wife should work together and treat each other well.
"So we are currently preparing a parenting pattern that is channeled between husband and wife in raising and guiding children," she said.
Previously, the Head of BKKBN Wihaji said that 20.9 percent of children in Indonesia lost the presence of a father figure due to various factors such as divorce, death, or the father's work far from the family.
"Currently, Indonesian society is starting to lose the figure of a father in raising children in the family. Fathers only take care of the family's economy, but forget to raise children," said Wihaji in an official statement on Saturday, February 1, 2025.
According to Wihaji, this has an impact on child development, increases emotional and social disorders, and increases the risk of abuse of narcotics, psychotropic drugs, and other addictive substances (Napza).
In addition, he said, the lack of a father's presence has the potential to reduce academic performance, increase the risk of juvenile delinquency, and make the masculine character in boys become blurred, which can ultimately eliminate leadership traits in children.
"Children also need psychological touch. So, if there is violence against children, never blame the child. We try to introspect what parents have done to their children," said Wihaji.
Wihaji also said that good parenting, which is based on noble morals and shared awareness, can prevent the culture of violence against children. According to him, creating a strong future generation depends not only on academic aspects, but must also start with character building in the family environment.
