TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance has managed to seize 289 units of illegally imported cell phones, smartphones, and tablets (HKT) valued at Rp867 million. This seizure was the result of eight enforcement actions conducted between November 4 and 27, 2024.

Among the seized items, 102 units of Apple iPhone 16 valued at Rp714 million, were identified as intended for resale rather than personal use, classifying them as controlled goods.

“These 289 units of HKT, worth Rp867 billion, had the potential to cause state losses of Rp260 million,” said Askolani, Director General of Customs and Excise, during a press conference held at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Friday, November 29, 2024.

Between November 4 and 27, Customs at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport conducted a total of 239 enforcement actions, resulting in the seizure of goods worth Rp2.9 billion. These seizures had the potential to cause state losses of Rp870 million.

Askolani emphasized that the number of enforcement actions during this period increased by 7.66% compared to the same period in 2023. Additionally, 28 cases involving narcotics, psychotropics, and precursors (NPP) were also resolved, with a total seized weight of 66.99 kg, representing a 47.37% increase compared to the previous year.

He went on to say that other items confiscated by customs authorities include 1,562 cosmetic products, 92 kilograms of meat, and various animal and plant products imported without proper permits. Additionally, 224 kilograms of Mitragyna speciosa (kratom) were seized during export enforcement operations.

In the realm of excise duties, authorities conducted 1,115,160 enforcement actions against counterfeit Class C ethyl alcohol-containing beverages (MMEA) import excise tapes, 90,520 cigarettes, 29 other tobacco product processing packages (HPTL), 2 kilograms of cut tobacco, 141 cigars, and 318 bottles of MMEA.

From January 1 to November 27, 2024, Customs at Soekarno-Hatta Airport carried out a total of 4,029 enforcement actions, averaging 366 actions per month. This represents a significant 93.3% increase compared to the 2,052 actions conducted during the same period in 2023.

The estimated total value of seized goods throughout 2024 is projected to reach Rp214.77 billion, with potential state savings of Rp38.3 billion. Askolani highlighted the increased efforts of the authorities in both enforcement and revenue collection.
