TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's new Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Yassierli ensures that Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) in 2025 will increase. "Yes, of course (increase), why wouldn't it," he said when met at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, November 6, 2024, as quoted from Antara.
Because, according to him, it is impossible to reduce UMP because the government focuses on helping workers with low incomes to get a decent wage.
However, Yassierli refused to mention how much the increase in minimum wage would be. What is certain, he said, all parties involved in labor wages have been invited to discuss and collaborate to find the right formula.
Those parties, he said, ranging from the National Wage Council to the Tripartite Cooperation Agency (LKS). All of these institutions have been consolidated by the Ministry of Manpower to find the right solution related to UMP.
Yassierli explained that the recent cabinet meeting also discussed the minimum wage and he will reveal more details to the media soon.
Furthermore, he also answered questions about when the regulations governing this minimum wage will be announced. What is certain, he said, the government does not want to rush and ensure that the regulations to be issued can meet the needs of both workers and businesses.
"We must be really firm that this ministerial regulation can really help workers with low incomes while still considering the business world," said Yassierli.
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto last Monday gave directions to the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) about the government's strategic steps in responding to the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the judicial review of the Job Creation Law.
At that time, said Yassierli, one of the President's directives was regarding the formulation of sectoral minimum wages (UMS) for workers."We talked a lot about minimum wages because this is indeed our deadline in the next 2 days," he said.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, hopes that the Minister of Manpower Regulation (Permenaker) that will regulate the minimum wage in 2025 will be established soon. He emphasized that the Permenaker will comply with the latest Constitutional Court decision on the Job Creation Law (UU Ciptaker). Based on the decision, changes are made to the minimum wage calculation scheme after including the Decent Living Needs (KHL) survey as one of the calculation components.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chair of the National Tripartite Cooperation Agency (LKS Tripnas) from the labor union element, Apip Johan, ensures the issuance of the Permenaker that will regulate the wage structure.
However, he admitted that he did not know when the Permenaker would be officially enacted. "If there is a ministerial regulation, there will definitely be one. We just don't know when," said Apip when met after the LKS Tripnas meeting on Tuesday, November 5 at the Kemnaker office.
The formation of the Permenaker itself, according to Apip, is a direct directive from President Prabowo Subianto delivered by Minister of Manpower Yassierli in front of labor representatives. "He (Yassierli) conveyed a directive from the President, because this time is short. Later, there will be a regulation through Permenaker," he said.
