TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian national team player Ivar Jenner said that the 'dirty' game applied by Saudi Arabia is something that can usually happen in football.
In the match at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) in Jakarta last night, Saudi used dirty tactics a lot, such as players easily falling to gain an advantage in fouls and wasting time.
'You know, some things, like wasting time, things like that, yellow cards, red cards, can happen,' Ivar told reporters after the match against Saudi in Jakarta on Tuesday.
In the match that ended 2-0 in favor of Indonesia, Saudi's dirty play successfully caught the attention of Uzbekistani referee, Rustam Rutfullin, who officiated the match.
Rutfullin was often shouted 'mafia' by the spectators in the stadium as he was considered biased and favored the away team.
In that match, Saudi's tactics led Indonesia to commit 15 fouls, five of which resulted in yellow cards, and one of them was a red card for Justin Hubner in the 89th minute.
Out of the five yellow cards, Ivar was one of the players who received it. The Jong FC Utrecht player received a yellow card in the 89th minute for strongly protesting against referee Rutfullin.
Although he consciously protested too harshly, Ivar admitted that his actions were 'foolish'.
'That was a bit foolish, I think. Actually, it was not a foul but I was quite aggressive towards the referee, so I got the card,' said the 20-year-old player.
Ivar is very happy to play full time to help Garuda record their first victory in the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in the Asian zone.
This victory lifted Indonesia from the bottom position to third place in Group C standings with six points from six matches.
Commenting on the remaining four matches against Bahrain and China at home, as well as Australia and Japan away games, the midfielder believes his team must win at least three matches to secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
'A very good victory, I am also happy to play again. Unfortunately, I got a suspension against Japan, so I am very happy to be back now, we have to keep moving forward in the next four or five games. I think we have to win three of them, then we can go to the World Cup,' said Ivar Jenner.
