TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta's gubernatorial candidate number 1, Ridwan Kamil, stated that the high lifestyle and lack of picnic spots make Jakarta residents often experience stress. The former governor of West Java revealed that Jakarta ranks 9th as the most stressful city in the world.

"Jakarta is the 9th most stressful city in the world. why is it stressed out? the answer is because of lifestyle. A high lifestyle causes stress, traffic jams cause stress, lack of picnic spots cause stress, work pressure causes stress," said Ridwan Kamil during the Declaration of Warrior Revival event in South Jakarta on Friday, October 26, 2024.

According to the man familiarly known as Emil, the indicators of stress causes are interconnected. He exemplified aspects of lifestyle and the high cost of living in Jakarta as stress triggers. This situation is even considered by Emil to be related to job opportunities in Jakarta.

"In the next five years, what I want to improve is job opportunities, the RIDO couple (Ridwan Kamil-Suswono) will provide one million job opportunities so that unemployed individuals can have jobs, God willing," said Emil.

This Golkar Party politician has repeatedly discussed Jakarta as a stressful city in the world. Based on Tempo's notes, Emil has suggested solutions to overcome this issue by providing a venting application for Jakarta residents. According to him, the government should be present to meet the mental health needs of its people.

"What form will it take? Various forms. There is an online application, venting can be done lying down," said Ridwan Kamil when met by reporters at the National Campaign Team (TKN) headquarters for Young Voters for Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka or TKN Fanta, in Menteng, Central Jakarta on Monday, September 2, 2024.

Supporting Ridwan Kamil's statement, CBD and Vaay have previously released The Least and Most Stressful Cities Index 2021, which includes 10 cities with the highest stress levels among residents. The study was conducted by evaluating 15 indicators, including unemployment rate, safety, gender equality, weather, and healthcare access in 500 cities worldwide.

Jakarta is indeed on that list and ranks ninth. However, it is mentioned that the main cause is not about lifestyle, but due to poor air pollution in Jakarta, even ranking the worst in the world according to IQAir.

As for the city with the highest stress level in that study, it is Mumbai in India. Followed by Lagos in Nigeria, Manila in the Philippines. While in 10th place is Kiev in Ukraine due to the consequences of the conflict with Russia that increase frustration and trauma.
