TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jay Idzes, the captain and center-back of the Indonesian National Team, is reported to have reached a verbal agreement to join the Serie A team Torino in the Italian League. The personal agreement is a four-year contract that extends until 2029.
Italian transfer specialist journalist Nicolo Schira, through his official Twitter account @NicoSchira, on Thursday, August 7, 2025, reported that Idzes will receive an annual salary of one million euros. Torino is currently negotiating with Venezia, the player's current club, to finalize the transfer for around 8 million euros plus bonuses.
Aside from Torino, two other Serie A clubs, Sassuolo and Genoa, are reportedly interested in the Dutch defender. However, Torino is currently at the forefront of the race.
The player with Indonesian heritage, named Jay Noah Idzes, was born in Mierlo, the Netherlands, on June 2, 2000. He began his professional career with FC Eindhoven, then joined Go Ahead Eagles, and since 2023, Venezia has strengthened its position in the second tier of the Italian league, Serie B.
In his debut season with Venezia, Idzes helped the team gain promotion to Serie A through the play-off route. He then made history as the first Indonesian player to appear and score a goal in Serie A, including when facing Juventus. Following his impressive performances, Idzes was appointed as the team captain by coach Eusebio Di Francesco at the beginning of the 2024/2025 season.
Jay Idzes officially became an Indonesian citizen at the end of 2023. He made his debut for Indonesia's senior national team in March 2024. He was then entrusted to captain the team in the continuation of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification in the Asian zone.
If Torino and Venezia reach an agreement during their negotiations, Jay Idzes will be the first Indonesian player to officially join a Serie A club this season. This transfer will also be one of the most valuable player moves in the history of Indonesian football.
