TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former President Joko Widodo today received Central Java gubernatorial candidate Ahmad Luthfi at his residence in Sumber Village, Banjarsari, Solo. He also welcomed Solo mayor candidate pair Respati Ardi and Astrid Widayani.
After the meeting, Jokowi revealed that he had contacted several candidates after the vote counting of yesterday’s election. He also congratulated the winners of the regional election.
"I received many calls last night until 10:00 p.m. I congratulated them for winning," said Jokowi when met at his residence on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
Jokowi, however, did not mention which running regional head pairs he had contacted.
"The winners should remain humble, not arrogant. Those who lost still have the opportunity to compete in the next 5 years. That is the maturity of democracy," he said.
Jokowi also said the 2024 simultaneous regional election has been conducted successfully.
"Alhamdulillah, the election process has all gone smoothly in all regions. I hope that sufficiently showcases the maturity in democracy,” he said.
Previously, gubernatorial candidate pair Khofifah Indar Parawansa and Emil Dardak received a video call from Jokowi. "Congratulations on what you have achieved. I think the result is already established,” Jokowi said via a video call on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
Meanwhile, Jokowi said Ahmad Lutfi’s visit to his residence was merely a social call. He said there were no special messages for the former Chief of the Central Java Regional Police when they met.
On the other hand, Respati and Astrid received congratulations from the former president. "He said one must be ‘clean’ and run the government properly,” Respati said, conveying Jokowi’s message.
