TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's 7th President Joko Widodo said President Prabowo's planned meeting with PDI-P Perjuangan Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri is great for a huge country like Indonesia.
"Very good. Very good for a country as big as Indonesia," Jokowi said when they met at his residence in Solo City, Central Java, on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
He said that the meeting would produce a good strength for the two national figures. According to Jokowi, it would also create political stability.
"This embrace and unity will provide good strength in the framework of our national development," he said. Jokowi further said that political stability will also affect the economy.
When asked if the meeting would result in no opposition, Jokowi stressed that he saw the good side of the meeting between the two national figures.
"It's a meeting. Earlier I said the goodness of a meeting," he said.
News of the planned meeting between Megawati and Prabowo recently resurfaced after the 52nd anniversary of the PDIP in Jakarta on January 10, 2025. It was also rumored that the two party leaders would meet before Prabowo's inauguration as president but it did not happen.
Although the two have not met, Gerindra Party Secretary General Ahmad Muzani claimed that the relationship between the Gerindra Party Chairman and Megawati has remained good since Prabowo was elected president.
"When Mr. Prabowo was elected president, the relationship was also maintained. Indeed, the two have never met, but communication is carried out in various ways," Ahmad Muzani said when met at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
