TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (Bappebti) recorded 21.63 million customers of crypto assets in Indonesia from 2022 to October 2024. Of that number, tax revenue from crypto asset transactions reached Rp942.88 billion.
Bappebti Secretary, Olvy Andrianita, said that the institution would consistently provide literacy to strengthen protection for the public. She mentioned that this step is important because the majority of crypto asset trading customers are young generations.
"Crypto asset trading in Indonesia continues to follow global market trends and remains a popular trading choice for the public," said Olvy in a written statement quoted on Monday, November 25, 2024.
Bappebti noted based on demographics, 75 percent of crypto asset customers are aged 18-35 years. "Bappebti believes that crypto asset trading in Indonesia will continue to grow along with the increasing interest of young customers," said Olvy.
Meanwhile, Head of Bappebti, Kasan, stated that the number of crypto asset transactions in Indonesia had also reached Rp475.13 trillion throughout January-October 2024. "The increasing growth of crypto asset trading transactions is one of Bappebti's commitments to support the development of crypto asset trading in Indonesia," he said.
This figure increased by 352.89 percent compared to the same period in 2023, which was IDR 104.91 trillion. Kasan said that this number proves that crypto trading has become one of the popular trading choices for the public.
"The development of crypto asset transactions will optimize the state revenue from the tax sector," he said.
Meanwhile, active customers transacting through the Crypto Asset Physical Trader Candidate (CPFAK) and Crypto Asset Physical Trader (PFAK) in October 2024 numbered 716 thousand customers. The types of crypto assets with the largest transaction value in PFAK in October 2024 were Tether (USDT), Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin (BTC), Pepe (PEPE), and Solana (SOL).
Kasan mentioned that the increasing number of customers currently shows the potential of the crypto asset market in Indonesia, which is still large. "In the future, Indonesia is expected to become one of the leaders in the crypto market worldwide," he said.
Kasan said that Bappebti also strengthened collaboration with Self Regulatory Organizations (SRO), associations, and related stakeholders. This step is to develop the ecosystem and governance of crypto assets.
Not only that, these efforts are claimed to strengthen regulation and increase public literacy. He said that the public's enthusiasm for crypto assets should be balanced with comprehensive education and literacy.
"Strengthening literacy is expected to be an effective step in improving protection for the public, providing certainty for industry players, and reducing complaints," said Kasan. He hoped that this step could provide security and comfort for the public, thus increasing trust in crypto asset trading in Indonesia.
Bappebti has also issued Bappebti Regulation (Perba) Number 9 of 2024 concerning the Third Amendment to Bappebti Regulation Number 8 of 2021 concerning Guidelines for the Implementation of Crypto Asset Physical Market Trading (Crypto Asset) on Futures Exchanges.
Currently, there are seven companies that have become PFAK. These seven PFAKs include PT Pintu Kemana Saja (Pintu), PT Bumi Santosa Cemerlang (Pluang), PT Aset Digital Berkat (Tokocrypto), PT Kagum Teknologi Indonesia (Ajaib), PT Tiga Inti Utama (Triv), PT Sentra Bitwewe Indonesia (Bitwewe), and PT CTXG Indonesia Berkarya (Mobee).
