TEMPO.CO, JakartaNational Police (Polri) Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo targets that the Directorate of Women and Children Crimes and Human Trafficking Crimes (PPA-PPO) can be developed at the national and regional police levels.

"We want this directorate not only at the Headquarters but we can develop it up to the Polda and Polres," said Listyo Sigit in his remarks at the Aisyiyah, Muhammadiyah’s Women Organization, Tanwir I event, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 15, 2025, as quoted from an official statement.

Sigit also said that his agency is working to harmonize the structure of the PPA-PPO Directorate at the Ministry of Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN-RB).

Sigit told the story of Polri's struggle to establish the PPA-PPO Directorate. He said that previously, he had repeatedly proposed the formation of the PPA-PPO Directorate to the PAN-RB ministry, but these efforts were unsuccessful. The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection supported the proposal to form the directorate.

Then, said Sigit, the proposal was finally submitted to former President Joko Widodo in a limited meeting and was approved. "Alhamdulillah, this long journey was successful, and the Police could form the Directorate of Women and Children," said Sigit. The PPA-PPO Directorate was finally officially formed on December 17, 2024, with Brigadier General Desy Andriani appointed its leader.

During the inauguration of the PPA-PPO Directorate last December, PPPA Minister Arifatul Choiri Fauzi was also present. According to her, the presence of the PPA-PPO Directorate will strengthen the synergy in handling violence against children and women, which is now increasing.

Arifatul said that in the last five years, during the 2019-2023 period, there were 2,265 victims of human trafficking crime. Of this data, 51 percent were children, 47 percent were adult women, and 2 percent were adult men.
