TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that the Gaza ceasefire agreement with Hamas is not yet finalized, with crucial details still under negotiation.
“An official statement by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be issued only after the completion of the final details of the agreement, which are being worked on at present,” his office said in a statement released early Thursday, January 16, 2025, as reported by Arab News.
Netanyahu has not explicitly confirmed his acceptance of the ceasefire deal announced earlier by Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and U.S. President Joe Biden.
In his statement, Netanyahu reiterated that he would only issue an official response "after the final details of the agreement, which are currently being worked on, are completed."
The ceasefire deal intended to end the devastating 15-month genocide in Gaza and facilitate the return of dozens of hostages.
The conflict has deeply impacted the Middle East, sparking widespread protests across the globe. Egyptian, Qatari, and U.S. negotiators are scheduled to convene in Cairo on Thursday for further discussions on the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, according to a senior U.S. official.
This official, who was not authorized to speak publicly and requested anonymity, emphasized that the negotiators are focused on ensuring clear expectations for both Israel and Hamas and facilitating a smooth implementation process.
