GOOTO.COM, Jakarta - PT Nissan Motor Distributor Indonesia (NMDI) mentioned that the Indonesian automotive market is more suitable to use hybrid cars than BEV or Battery Electric Vehicle.
However, Nissan does not deny that currently, there are many electric vehicles from China entering the market, providing more choices for consumers.
"We gather a lot of information (from consumers and the market), the differences between hybrid cars and ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) models," said Asako Hoshino, Executive Vice President of Nissan Motor in South Jakarta, Friday, December 12, 2024.
He assessed that the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia is still not sufficient. This led Nissan to decide to invest more in gasoline and hybrid e-Power cars.
Asako emphasized that e-Power technology is a suitable solution as a bridge or transition before switching to pure electric vehicles or BEV.
"After trying an EV, you will definitely not forget the acceleration and quietness. But due to infrastructure and other factors, it is not easy to have a BEV, so e-Power provides the sensation of driving an EV without worrying about charging," added Asako.
For information, Nissan has a hybrid technology called e-Power, where the gasoline engine functions as a generator for an electric motor that drives the wheels. This is quite different from most other hybrid cars in the country.
As cited from Nissan's official website, e-Power consists of a 1,200 cc cylinder engine, generator, inverter, and electric motor. The ICE engine and generator produce electricity which is then stored in Lithium-Ion batteries.
Afterward, the power in the battery is transferred to the electric motor to provide power, so it does not require charging like conventional electric vehicles.
