TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency or  BMKG forecast light rain today, Thursday January 9, 2025, for Central Jakarta, West Jakarta, South Jakarta, and East Jakarta.

Unlike North Jakarta and Kepulauan Seribu, which are located on the north coast, BMKG said there is a potential for rain accompanied by lightning in both areas today.

Light rain is also expected in Bogor Regency and City, Bekasi Regency and City, and Depok City. Even with Tangerang Regency and South Tangerang City. BMKG only forecast differently for the Tangerang City area. According to BMKG, this area is only cloudy today.

Separately, a researcher at the Climate and Atmospheric Research Center of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Erma Yulihastin, revealed that the rain in Jakarta and its surroundings was affected by the movement of tropical cyclone 97S.

The cyclone seedling grew in the Indian Ocean south of East Java, and on Wednesday night, it continued to move westward. She predicted that 97S would soon reach the south of West Java.

Erma explained that the movement of the 97S cyclone seedlings triggered strong winds on the south coast of Java and squall line (rain clouds that move in a straight line or line) in the Java Sea towards the north coast of Java. Most recently, he monitored the mesoscale convective complex (collection of convective clouds) extending from Lampung to Jakarta.

"The potential for heavy rain lasts until morning. Beware of flooding in Jakarta," Erma warned on Wednesday night. On that night, rain was reported in a number of areas in Jakarta and Bogor.
