Persistent Rainfall in South Bali Predicted Until Year-End, Influenced by Cyclone Seedlings

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Heavy rainfall is expected to continue showering the South Bali region until the end of the year. Throughout December, the accumulated rainfall in Denpasar was more than 700 mm.

Based on data from a private weather station network, the National Research and Innovation Agency, or BRIN, revealed that the rain that fell in southern Bali throughout the day was quite heavy.

"Persistent rain until the end of the year is influenced by the dynamics of tropical storms (cyclone seedling 98S) in the southern Indian Ocean," a climatology researcher at the BRIN Climate and Atmospheric Research Center, Erma Yulihastin said via her X account on December 26.

Tropical Cyclone Seedling 98S is located southwest of Sumatra. Erma said, another cyclone seedling, namely 99S, has recently appeared in southwest Banten.

"Now there are two, and they are still remnants of the previous decay that have now formed again," said the research professor. Meanwhile, in northern Indonesia, a tropical depression is expected to move toward the Malay Peninsula. The decay of the cyclone seed first moved away from Indonesia in the South China Sea. "The warm sea is currently feeding the storm," he said.

Prevent the Monkey Forest Tragedy from Recurring

The Ministry of Tourism has asked tourists traveling to Bali for the Christmas and New Year holidays in 2025 to always check the weather information. This appeal is to prevent a recurrence of the fallen trees incident at the Monkey Forest tourist attraction in Gianyar.

Tourists are also expected to check the operational standards of the management when they arrive at each destination. "Are there umbrellas or shelters, are there tourism police," said the Ministry of Tourism's Acting Deputy for Marketing Ni Made Ayu Marthini in Denpasar on Thursday, quoted by Antara.

The Ministry of Tourism official is aware that the incident that resulted in tourists being injured or killed at Monkey Forest was a natural condition. However, anticipation must still be carried out.

In addition, the role of tourism managers is important. Ni Made stressed the need to assess the condition of the trees and ensure that the same incident does not happen again.
