TEMPO.CO, JakartaPhilippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday, November 29, confirmed that he asked lawmakers to stop all efforts to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte. He stated that it is not worth the time of Congress.

Marcos was asked about a circulating message that allegedly came from him. In the message, Marcos asked House leaders to stop all impeachment efforts against Sara Duterte.

The text was initially revealed by TV host Anthony Taberna. "In the larger scheme of things, Sara is unimportant. So please do not file impeachment complaints," Marcos was quoted as saying by Philippine Star.

Taberna did not disclose the recipient of the text. But Marcos confirmed that the leaked text was true. "Why waste time on it?" Marcos told reporters, as quoted from Reuters. "None of this will help improve a single Filipino life. As far as I'm concerned, it's a storm in a teacup."

When asked if his relationship with the vice president was irreparable, Marcos replied: "Never say never."

Rumors about impeachment complaints against Duterte continue to circulate. The House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability has been investigating the Vice President's Office over allegations of misusing confidential funds worth 500 million pesos, as well as 112.5 million pesos in the Department of Education.

During the investigation, the panel flagged several anomalous activities, including inconsistent acknowledgment receipts signed by a certain “Mary Grace Piattos.”

Duterte has refused to comment about who Piattos is, saying she has not seen any of the receipts.

During the House panel hearing, lawmakers also found that millions in confidential funds were withdrawn and kept in duffel bags, according to Landbank representatives.

Sara Duterte made headlines when she revealed a plan to kill President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez if she dies. Duterte even emphasized that it was not a joke.

Although she has backtracked on this threat, security and justice personnel took it seriously. Philippines’ National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has summoned Duterte to explain her statements.
