TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The South Tangerang Police (Polres) arrested seven people suspected to be members of an international online gambling syndicate. The arrest was made at Ruko Puri Mansion, Kembangan, West Jakarta, where the syndicate is operating.
South Tangerang Police Chief, Adj. Sr. Comr. Victor Daniel Henry Inkiriwang, said that the online gambling syndicate site had been operating since three years ago. "The results obtained from this online gambling site in September 2024 were around IDR 2 billion, and in October 2024, the made around IDR 1.9 billion," said Victor in a written statement, quoted on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
The suspects arrested at the location are NAD (30 years old), MA (26 years old), BMM (28 years old), ABK (20 years old), BSA (19 years old), VNA (30 years old), and RAK (28 years old). NAD is the marketing leader of the online gambling site, while MA is the designer of the website. MA also worked as the editor of photos and videos used as content for the social media account of the website.
BMM, ABK, and BSA work as photo, image, and video editors that will be used for advertising and promoting the online gambling website. Meanwhile, VNA and RAK are tasked with uploading news articles that has links directed to the website.
The police also confiscated a number of evidence, including 19 mobile phones, 8 laptops, 7 CPUs, and 23 monitors. The Police also secured a total of 28 bank books, 26 ATM cards, four bank tokens, two Wi-Fi routers, and one box of phone sim cards.
Victor mentioned that the site is part of an international online gambling network. "The operation of the online gambling site is carried out in Cambodia, which is still being investigated by investigators," he said. Meanwhile, the number of members or players on this online gambling site is estimated to reach 28,000 people.
The police have charged the seven suspects with multiple articles. Starting from Article 303 of the Criminal Code; Article 45 paragraph (3) Jo Article 27 paragraph (2) of Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE Law); Article 48 paragraph (1) Jo Article 32 paragraph (1) of the ITE Law; Article 48 paragraph (2) Jo Article 32 paragraph (2) of the ITE Law; and Article 50 Jo Article 34 paragraph (1) of the ITE Law.
In addition, the actions of the members of the online gambling syndicate are also charged with money laundering criminal acts, namely Article 3 of Law Number 8 of 2010 concerning the Prevention and Eradication of Money Laundering Crimes (TPPU Law); Article 4 of the TPPU Law; and Article 5 of the TPPU Law.
