TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Police in Gowa Regency have arrested an employee of Alauddin State Islamic University (UIN) Makassar for alleged involvement in a counterfeit money production and distribution syndicate.
Gowa Police Public Relations Officer Inspector Kusman Jaya confirmed that the case is under investigation and further development. “This is still in the development stage. Once we receive confirmation from the Criminal Investigation Unit, it will be officially released,” he said on Saturday, December 14, 2024.
Preliminary information suggests that Gowa Police have detained several individuals suspected of being part of the counterfeit money operation. It is alleged that a university employee was producing counterfeit money on campus grounds.
The investigation began when the Criminal Investigation Unit of Pallangga Sector Police arrested a suspected distributor of counterfeit money. The case was subsequently traced back to the production site within the campus area.
