TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said he was interested in contributing to President Prabowo Subianto's government programs, including the free nutritious meal program. Ishiba conveyed his intention in a speech during his visit to the Bogor Presidential Palace to meet with Prabowo on Saturday, Jan. 11.

"I would like to contribute and cooperate with Indonesia in the programs conveyed by Mr. President, such as self-sufficiency in food and natural energy resources, downstream and industrialization, and nutritious meals for the people, as well as security," Ishiba said in his speech.

Ishiba admitted that he was touched to see the significant development of Indonesia compared to his last visit to the country when he was a member of parliament at the age of 34.

According to Ishiba, Japan and Indonesia have a lot in common. In addition to being archipelagic countries, Indonesia and Japan are both located in the middle of large countries such as the United States and China.

"So we have to pay attention to balance in our foreign policy," he said.

Meanwhile, Prabowo invited Japan to join his priority programs. He said in his speech that Indonesia is open if Japan wants to participate in Indonesia's economic development.

"We are very open to Japanese industries to participate in our downstream programs in all areas of our natural resources," said the president.

He said the Japanese leader's visit was a symbol of the commitment of both countries to strengthen and consolidate bilateral relations. To Ishiba, Prabowo touched on several of his priority programs, including food, energy self-sufficiency, downstream and industrialization, improving nutrition, and defense.
