TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto conveyed his commitment to complete the construction of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) within four years.
He said this during a retreat with the Red and White Cabinet at the Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java.
The message was shared by Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni via his Instagram post after a briefing with Prabowo in the last afternoon session of the retreat on Saturday, October 26.
"For him, IKN is the 'political capital'. In addition to completing the executive buildings in the next four years, the IKN Authority (OIKN) must also complete the legislative and judicial buildings," he said, as quoted from his Instagram @rajaantoni, on Saturday.
In addition, the head of state promised on several occasions to continue the programs of the previous government in his administration.
"We have decided to continue and complete IKN (construction). There is no question about it," Antoni said.
According to the timeline, IKN is expected to be completed in 2028 and will host state government and political activities.
"President Prabowo hopes that we can hold the DPR/MPR plenary session in 2028 at the IKN. He even hopes that the inauguration of the president and vice president in 2029 can be held at the IKN," the minister added.
Earlier, on October 11, the OIKN assured that the construction of the IKN will continue in the coming government term.
"There is no doubt about the continuity of the IKN. It will be completed as a city-world for all," the special assistant to the head of the OIKN and spokesman for the OIKN, Troy Pantouw, noted in a statement from his office.
He also said that his party continues to attract domestic and foreign investors to invest in IKN, making it a super economic hub with the potential to drive the national economy.
To date, eight phases of groundbreaking have been carried out with an estimated investment value of Rp58.41 trillion (US$3.6 billion).
