TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Minister of Public Works and Housing Basuki Hadimuljono visited the State Palace, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Donning a black suit and white shirt, Basuki said he had been summoned for his inauguration as the Head of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority.
Prasetyo Hadi, the Minister of State Secretary, previously confirmed the appointment of Basuki Hadimuljono as IKN Authority chief. He conveyed the news to the media crew at the Military Academy, or Akmil Magelang, Central Java, on Sunday, October 27. He, however, stopped short of confirming the inauguration date.
Prabowo has also determined the deputy head of the IKN Authority, Prasetyo mentioned. Basuki's inauguration as IKN Authority Head requires the approval of House of Representatives (DPR).
Basuki was initially appointed as the Acting Head of the IKN Authority by former President Joko Widodo, replacing Bambang Susantono, who resigned from his post in June 2024. He was accompanied by Raja Juli Antoni, incumbent Minister of Forestry, as the Deputy Head of the IKN Authority.
In a statement at Akmil Magelang, Prasetyo stated that Prabowo had aimed to complete the construction of the new capital within 3 to 4 years, including the judiciary buildings.
Prior, Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni revealed that one of the four points conveyed by Prabowo in the last session of the recent Cabinet Retreat concerned the sustainability of IKN.
Raja Juli maintained that Prabowo is committed to completing the development of IKN, as the president believed IKN is Indonesia’s Political Capital. According to him, Prabowo aimed to hold a plenary session with the parliament in the new capital by August 2028.
