TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto met British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Downing Street 10, London, on Thursday, November 21, 2024, discussing the opportunities to enhance bilateral relations between Indonesia and the UK.
PM Starmer welcomed Prabowo upon his arrival at the main door of the hi office. The Labour Party leader expressed appreciation for President Prabowo's visit.
Starmer expressed his commitment to further enhance Indonesia-UK cooperation. "We have done lots together as countries, and I am sure, strategically, there are lots that we can talk about while we’re here,” said Starmer.
Prabowo also expressed his appreciation for being able to meet in person with Keir Starmer in his office. The former TNI General stated that the UK government is interested in cooperating with Indonesia in several sectors.
"They are also interested in helping us in several sectors, including the economic sector, fisheries, education, healthcare, and defense," said President Prabowo in his statement to the media on a separate occasion, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat.
The official website of the UK government released a Joint Statement on the New Strategic Partnership between Indonesia and the UK on November 21, 2024.
Several MoUs signed cover issues of sustainable economic growth and human development, defense and foreign policy, climate change, energy transition, and sustainable development.
Both countries agreed to launch a new UK-Indonesia Strategic Partnership in 2025.
The UK is supposedly the last country in the series of Prabowo's foreign tour starting from November 8, 2024. The head of state had visited China, the United States, Peru for the APEC Summit, and Brazil for the G20 Summit.
