TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto pledges to distribute television to every school in Indonesia. He believes that schools, whether in regencies or cities, are the center of national development.
Prabowo conveyed the statement during his remarks on the National Teacher's Day commemoration at Velodrome, Rawamangun, East Jakarta, on Thursday, November 28, 2024. The former Minister of Defense said schools must be good and clean.
"God willing, in the near future, I will distribute fairly advanced televisions in every school throughout Indonesia," said Prabowo.
This former TNI General hopes that the television screens will allow students to access educational broadcasts and knowledge they require for learning. Prabowo does not wish for any teacher to be unable to provide lessons to their students. "So, be patient, in 4 more months," he said.
In the same speech, Prabowo announced a salary increase for teachers in 2025, which aligned with a statement conveyed by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu'ti, at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, after a meeting with President Prabowo.
Civil servant teachers will receive a double increase in their basic salary. Additionally, non-civil servant teachers who hold teacher certification will benefit from a Rp2 million salary increase.
The Secretary-General of Muhammadiyah clarified that the additional Rp2 million for non-civil servant teachers is derived from the teacher certification program. This increase is supplementary to the salary provided by their respective schools.
Prabowo believes that the key to the country's success lies in education that directly involves teachers. The Chairman of Gerindra stated that his government prioritizes education. This former Minister of Defense believes that poverty can be addressed through education.
“Despite being in office for only a month, we are pleased to announce improvements in teacher welfare,” said Prabowo.
